Darrell Dunn's Testimony-Continued
There's That Word Again!

It was during this Sunday morning service that I heard the word saved for the second time. The invitation was still going strong. I watched as grown men in tears climbed over pews and anything else that might prevent them from making it to the Pastor who was standing in the front of the pulpit. A whole lot of whispering in the Pastor's ear was taking place! (I still had no idea what they were saying to him.) Then it happened. I heard someone nearby crying. I turned to look behind me where people standing against the wall having been unable to find a seat in the auditorium. (It was a good thing we came early enough to have a place to sit!) But, it wasn't any one of them crying. My little sister, Mary, and youngest brother, Russell, were on my right, with mother standing next to me on the left. The crying was coming from the other side of mother. I looked around her and saw that it was my daddy crying! I could not believe my eyes.

My daddy was a "Man's man"! In all my life, I had never seen him cry! I turned away in unbelief then looked again just to be sure. I then raised my eyes towards mother's face only to see her crying as well! I couldn't believe it. Both of them were crying! I immediately thought, "Oh no! They've had a fight! Right here in church..they've had a fight!" To my surprise, mother leaned over, handed me her purse and whispered, "Darrell..stay here with Mary and Russell. We'll be back in a few minutes. Daddy's going to get saved!" With that said, holding hands they stepped out of the pew into the aisle and made their way to the front and to the Pastor. I watched as he hugged my daddy and waved for Bill Buckalew to take him back in the prayer room and talk with him. As they left, it seemed like the whole church broke into tears! (It was tears of rejoicing I now know. The prayers of many people were being answered in glorious ways!) Daddy had gone to get saved...whatever that meant. I had no idea what it was. But, whatever it was... daddy was going to "get" it!

After the service ended, mother came back to get us three kids. We went back with her to the front of the auditorium to wait for daddy to come out of the little prayer room to the side and behind the platform. In a few minutes here he came. As soon as he did, several people hugged his neck or shook his hand, obviously happy about what he had done. Mother hurried to him in tears to hug, kiss and hold him. Daddy was still crying, but now he was wearing a very big smile!

While we were watching all of this, Bill Buckalew walked over to Mary and Russell and me. He patted us all on our respective heads, smiled beneath his silver white hair and stated, "Your daddy just got saved! Isn't that good!" I shook my head in an affirmative nod and said, "Yes Sir." As he walked off I thought to myself, "What is being saved? What does it mean? What does getting saved do? I was about to find out!
